Someone is killing Hollywood…

All during the day, I have wonderful thoughts and ideas that swirl through my head, but I have no access to my blog and Twitter is no use because of the whole 140 character thing…by the time I have the time to blog, I’ve slept and my brain has gone into reboot mode. Even if I do get something out, the cobwebs were clearly visible in my writing.

So, instead of a blog, you get a totally offensive image…I didn’t make it, but I did find it on some strange, strange blog…

There are some people who get riled up when you talk about Prop 8, abortion, or prayer in public schools. These issues are big and important and should be debated, but we all know there are those who take things a little too far.

The term “extremist” has been thrown around a lot lately with the rise of terrorism, and most people immediately think of Muslim. The truth is that to be an extremist, it simply means to take your beliefs to the extreme. There are Christian extremists who are just as psychotic as the terrorist. This can be proven simply by looking at recent news regard the murder of Dr. Tiller.

I personally don’t support abortion, but the thought has never entered my mind to take up arms against someone because of my beliefs. No matter how strongly I feel about the subject. Dr. Tiller’s murderer is an extremist and falls into the same category as a suicide bomber or terrorist.

Here are my view on politics and views in general. It never does anyone any good to argue about something to the point that it breaks into a fist-fight or worse. It also does no good to let other trample all over you.

The problem with both sides of the fence is that there are extremists, conservative and liberal alike, who will not back down or even consider the remote possibility that they are wrong. Lets use Prop 8 as an example.

The right wing says that gay marriage will the destroy the very moral fabric of our society and is an attack on their personal rights. The left wing says that every man and woman has the right to marry whomever they choose and that not allow it is an attack on their personal rights. So, who decides whose rights win? Some stuffy judge in a courtroom.

I’ve been going back and forth in my head about Prop 8 since I first heard about it. The conservative side of me finds it odd and uncomfortable of the thought of two men or two women being legally married. My liberal side is outraged at the fact that there are people essentially forcing other people to live a certain way. Who is it really hurting to have gay marriage legal? No one is losing money. No one is having anything physically taken away from them.

Now, being that I am not gay, and not planning to be any time soon (sarcasm), there is no way for me to truly know how it would feel, unless I imagine someone coming to my house and telling me that I am no longer legally married to my wife. Sure, it would bother and anger me, but it doesn’t mean we have to break up or go live in separate houses.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is that there needs to be a little more middle gorund in a lot of these debates. The way I see it, if you are strictly left-wing or right-wing, you just end up flying in circles.

Abortion: should be legal but limited to cases of rape, incest, or threat of health. Abortions of inconvienice is why there is birth control, condoms, adbstinance, etc.

Prayer in school: should not be organized or promoted by staff, but if students want to organize prayer groups, it should not be stopped.

Gay marriage: if cival union is not enough, why not?

Gun control: certain firearms should remain illegal. All privately owned firearms should be registered.

The Antichrist, by Lucas Cranach the Elder – 1521, commissioned by Martin Luther. Cranach was a Lutheran and therefore portrayed the Antichrist as the Pope, complete with the papal tiara.

Mtv used to be the place to good for the best music videos and VH1 was for the losers you liked Meredith Brooks and Alanis Morisette. Mtv had shows like Heabanger’s Ball, Beavis and Butthead, Liquid Television, and decent videos in full rotation throughout the day.

At some point, Mtv was kidnapped, murdered and replaced by some watered-down superficial channel loaded with scripted reality shows.  I would often wonder, “who watches this crap?”.

My question was answered last night while watching the Mtv Movie Awards and the answer wasn’t so surprising.  I watched in disgust as Twilight gobbled up every award that it was nominated for (except for best song which went to Hannah Montana). Even the actors seemed a little annoyed when they had to come up to the stage so much and I swear I saw people in the audience rolling their eyes.

So, Mtv’s new target audience is prepubescent teenage girls which explains their change from MUSIC television to brain-dead entertainment. There’s an idea, change their name from MTV to BDE.

It annoys me when American Idol contestants/winners are referred to as musicians. Some may be, but for the most part, they are singers. If they don’t write the actual music to their songs and don’t play some sort of instrument, that are not a musician. This goes for boy/girl “bands” too. In essence, these people are singing, dancing puppets.

One of the most frustration things about working in tech support, is that some people have this assumptions that we can fix any issue, and with just a press of a button.

For example, I spoke with a man who needed to get his internet of his phone working. The only way to fix this is to manually program the settings into the device.

Now, to try and explain this to him was like trying to explain quantum physics to a three-year-old. To make things worse, he was talking to me on the cell phone with no alternate line. He kept asking me over and over if I could just program it through my computer (i.e. my god-like super powered magic wand). I kindly explained that it was not possible to remotely access his phone from my terminal and that we would have to call back from another line so that we could walk him through programming his settings.

After debating the ethics of our company for the better part of an hour, the conversation ended…I don’t even remember if we ever got the phone working.

The moral of the story: If you need help with any device and you have to call tech support, listen to them because (for the most part) they know what they are talking about. If for some reason you think they are not, hang up, call back, and see if you get the same answer. Also, if you are having an issue with your cellphone, it’s usually not a good idea to call from the phone you are having a problem with ESPECIALLY if the problem is with dropped calls, poor reception, etc.
